Martin Gilmore
Martin met Darby in Elementary school at art lessons. He was never much of an artist but, his mom was the teacher…which meant he had to go. As time went on his focus steered farther and farther away from art and more and more towards music. So much so that now he makes his living as a musician. Wheatland High School was not a notoriously artistic place, so Martin and Darby used their geology class as an outlet for the release of a great story…”Greg Orean: Back in time”. Jokes developed into a power point about the epochs and eons that made up the earth’s timeline, and it was never shown to anyone.
Time passed and Martin went to college in Scottsbluff, Nebraska and studied English and music. But a year spent away from the epic story caused Darby to come to school in Scottsbluff, and the epic continued. A year in college, a tiny little house and countless nights pondering philosophy and popular culture began to bring life to their creative visions.
From there Martin went on to the University of Wyoming to continue his studies in English and music. His concentration on literature and composition not only influenced his talent in songwriting, but also brought perspective and the ability to reference really obscure stuff that no one would probably understand (perfect for a web comic).
In 2005 his career drive took a drastic turn with the creation of his bluegrass band Long Road Home. In 2007 He moved to Denver, Colorado where he now resides. He is currently a professional musician, playing guitar in Long Road Home and playing solo shows. He also teaches at Swallow Hill Music School and the Olde Town Pickin’ Parlor. In 2009 he released his debut solo album titled (very originally) “Martin Gilmore.” If you want to find out more about Martin’s music check out the links page, go to www.martingilmore.com or check out this video!
